There is an amusing and interesting post on the Newquay road Runner's website from Mark Stephenson of his experience of the 5 Tors race. Follow this link: http://www.newquayroadrunners.co.uk/ and look on the News and Articles pages. If anyone who did the 5 Tors can suggest anything to improve it for next year, please let me know. Our star runner and coach Revis had a great run in the An Resek Hellys 10+ race yesterday. Here are the comments from the Cornwall Road Running website... In the ladies race Cornwall A.C.'s Jo Friday was in a class of her own, beaten only by 11 male runners, and finishing almost 5 minutes clear of the second placed Revis Crowle of the East Cornwall Harriers, with Steph Martin, Newquay Road Runners, a further ten seconds adrift in third. Revis' time was 1:07:22, with a finshing place at 31

This is a Poem written by the ECH resident poet, Anton. As you will see, he was inspired by the place we all love - Bodmin Moor. All of us, I'm sure, share the sentiments Anton has expressed within it. Thanks Anton. Monday, March 24

Congratulations to everyone for the successful organisation of the 5 tors. many people asked to pass on their thanks to the club for an enjoyable race, in spite of the conditions! It was very much a team effort with many club members putting in a great deal of hard work. Thanks to them. Thanks also to the marshals who braved a cold, bleak moor to ensure the runners safety. There were 107 finishers. Natalie Wyer won the Bill Muller Memorial Trophy and Mike Corfield the Nick Stone Trophy. The Men's team prize was won by Plymouth Harriers and the Ladies' by East Cornwall Harriers. The full results are attched. Best wishes Ian Ringer Tuesday, March 18

As you probably know, to enable you to race with the club vest and so enjoy a reduced race fee, you have to be a member of England Athletics. This was part of the club membership fee and was paid by the club on your behalf. This year, the Committee have decided to separate the various parts of the fees payable by members in order to enable you to choose what you pay for. One of these parts is the fee payable to England Athletics. This is £5. The club will no longer pay this automatically on your behalf. You can obtain a form from Amanda and, either send this yourself or Amanda will do it for you. It is impotant to note that, unless you are a member of England Athletics you will not be able to enjoy the reduced fee for races (usually about £2 a time). It makes sense therefore, if you intend to race, that you pay the £5. If you have any queires, see one of the Committee. Best wishes Ian R Thursday, February 21

Hello With my friend Barry Watson (Ex Olympic marathon man and founder of South Kent Harriers) I am contacting running clubs and associations to inform you of the fourth Somme Valley Poppy Marathon in Picardie, France. The event is planned for the 14 September 2008 which I know seems a long way off at the moment, but perhaps for your planning and organisation its better to have this information well in advance. The event is unique in France, that is to say ‘a charity based event’ You can find a lot more information on our web-site, which is in English and French. (It will be completely updated for 2008 by end December 2007)) The 4th Somme Marathon will be run on Sunday 14 September 2008. Our Marathon will begin in the town of Albert and runners will be able to choose between four different races The full marathon, half Marathon, 10kms, 5kms Plus in 2008 hand bike, for able and disabled athletes, will participate in the half marathon (see web- site for more info) The full and half marathon will take participants over the hallowed ground of the WWI battlefields ,going by sites where soldiers marched and fought in such difficult conditions between 1914 and 1918running past the Lochnagar Crater, the Thiepval Monument and the Newfoundland Memorial Park, Canadian Monument, all in a bid to raise money for Charity.
You are sure of a warm welcome here in France; we’re just a short drive from Dover. . Please visit our website in English (or French) for all the information you need to enrol, book accommodation and generally get yourselves prepared. Thanks and hope to see you soon. Paul Chaplin

Hi,
I trust you'll forgive this unsolicited approach, but I have recently launched a running-related business on Mull in the Western Isles of Scotland. You can see what I mean at www.running-holidays.co.uk I'd be happy to offer a 10% discount on any trips organised through your club for groups of 10 or more runners, provided that the booking is made before the end of January 2008. Please take a few moments to look at the site, and if you feel that you would like to know more, just get in touch. Best wishes, John Hilton Sunday, January 6

This is just a quick note to remind you that the Brown Willy Run will start from Jamaica Inn, Bolventor on New Year's Day. This year, in response to popular request, we are starting half an hour earlier, at 11.00. It's the usual 6 Cornish miles, out and back across Bodmin Moor to the top of Brown Willy and back, regardless of the weather. Please pass on the message to all the East Cornwall Harriers.
Forget the black coffee and fry up: the Brown Willy Run remains the definitive hangover cure. It would be great to see loads of East Cornwall Harriers out on the moor on New Year's Day. I'll be the little bloke on the top with an icicle on the end of his nose.
Just to reiterate, it's an informal run, not a race, although it will undoubtedly get pretty competitive up the front end. There are perpetual trophies for the first man and woman home, and there will be a memento for all finishers, but there are no race numbers or results or times. There is no entry fee, but we do ask everyone to consider a generous charitable contribution towards the Cornwall Search and Rescue Team, who will be out on the moor looking after us on the day, and the Merlin Project for Cornish MS sufferers.
Registration will be from
